Fresh Music Friday: Khruangbin, Washington, India Jordan

For this week’s Fresh Music Friday, Georgia Condon, Jessica Negus and Alec Cobbold dissect some trademark Khruangbin warmth, an alt-pop bop from Washington, and joyful happy-hardcore from India Jordan.

“So We Won’t Forget” – Khruangbin

Georgia: Laid back drums, silky vocals, beachy guitar – ‘So We Won’t Forget’ made me even more keen for road trips up to the beach now the travel restrictions are gone (!!).

Alec: Dreamy and noodly. Takes me for a walk. Or a ride. But with bike lights.

Jess: Hazy, gentle, uplifting – a thoroughly enjoyable sonic tonic.

“Dark Parts” – Washington

Georgia: If Taylor Swift or Katy Perry worked with Australian indie producers, it would probably sound something like this – now I can’t get ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ out of my head…

Alec: Nice, upbeat cosmic-pop shuffle encasing a slightly spongey lyrical story.

Jess: Slick alt-pop production, and there’s something I can’t quite put my finger on that stops this song being too catchy for its own good.

“For You” – India Jordan

Georgia: ‘For You’ will have your head bopping from the word go, it’s build up is light, funky, but still super complex. Want a five-and-a-half minute good time, but Matt from Tinder isn’t replying? Chuck this one a listen.

Alec: Very catchy loopy-house cut, which is clearly optimised for the approaching UK summer, but that won’t stop me enjoying in the Sydney winter. What a follow up to ‘DNT STP MY LV’.

Jess: One of underground dance music’s most exciting producers beautifully toes the line between manic happy-hardcore and fervent, driving old school rave.
