USyd: Students “will not be penalised” for attending Global Climate Strike

USyd admin has announced that students will not be penalised for any classes missed on September 20 to attend the Global Climate Strike.

The announcement appeared in the ‘Notices’ section of Monday’s Student News.

USyd’s announcement comes after the NSW and ACT Synods of the Uniting Church, responsible for Knox Grammar, Newington College, and Pymble Ladies’ College among other high-profile schools, passed a motion which endorsed staff and students who took part in the gloval strike.

The SMH reports that the Church is “the first major Australian institution to provide such explicit support for the movement.”

The Sydney branch of the global strike will meet at The Domain on September 20, with more details to follow on the Facebook Event.
