					SURG On Repeat
This is your inaugural, highly-anticipated, deftly curated update on what your Exec and fellow SURG members are listening to. Let’s get started with some tracks that people just couldn’t help but share their thoughts on.
Angu: BREATHE IN BREATHE OUT – Memory Motel
“Insanely good production, local Inner West band at the Conservatorium (USyd), dreamy vocals – Tame Impala meets Mazzy Star and Shoe Gaze.”
Maysa: The Foundations of Decay – My Chemical Romance
“The sheer importance of MCR’s return to making music 🙏🏻🙏🏻.”
Niamh (Music): Rocksta – 1300
“This song is the musical embodiment of refined chaotic energy, the FLOW is insane and so incredibly satisfying, and the music video is actual perfection. 1300 are the coolest hip-hop collective in Australia (and the most fun).”
Alex G: Angeleyes – ABBA
“I wonder if there’s someone out there who identifies with the male figure of this song like (insane) people do with American Psycho.”
Tamsyn (Marketing): Sara – Fleetwood Mac
“This is one of Fleetwood Mac’s best songs, and it’s no surprise it was their first hit in the 80s. The final chorus is magical. It showcases Stevie Nicks’ vocal range effortlessly and is accompanied by mystical instrumentation. It makes me feel like I’m frolicking in a forest when really I’m tiptoeing around the Law Library.”
Callum: Shine – Years and Years
“The first time I heard this I instantly fell in love with it. It is a love song but it’s upbeat and feel-good and will give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside.”
Kaela: Distance – Yebba
“Just love Yebba at the moment – she’s been healing my soul.”
George (Technical): Joan of Arc – Leonard Cohen
“I feel like I’m being read a story before bed. It’s the best.”
Christine: Mr Percocet – Noah Cyrus
“An intoxicating track that is brutally honest, blending slide guitar with ripples of an acoustic sound. I have been enamoured by this song since its release, especially the lines and the way she sings, ‘you are malevolent and benevolent’. It is unparalleled. Do give it a listen.”
Ishbel: Simulation Swarm – Big Thief
“This whole album fucking slaps, but this one is simply excellent!”
Olly: Twice – Charli XCX
“One of the best album closers I’ve heard in a while, both fitted the album’s sonic theme but also got across its own distinct message and communicated it in a catchy, insightful way.”
Nicki (Events): Seems Like – Thee Sinseers
“BOP – so quirky and fun.”
Aidan: This Perfect Day – The Saints
“The Saints are a pretty special band for me; I think they are so underappreciated in terms of how groundbreaking their sound was back in 1970s Brisbane. It was also a shock when lead singer Chris Bailey passed away a few weeks ago – a tragedy for Australian music, but an opportunity to dive into The Saints’ discography, as it is brilliant (at least the first three explosive albums). “This Perfect Day” is one of the band’s most relentless tracks – it is a near-flawless anthem for disaffected youth, and makes just as much sense in our present climate as it did back in the 70s.”
Max: Kenosis – Hath
“I just want more people to listen to this because it’s a banger.”
Lisa: Yuck – Charli XCX OR Highest Building – Flume
“Pop perfection!” / “This song is so euphoric and makes me emotional.”
Alex D: Strange Melody – Jessica Pratt
“Love this track! Very warm – there’s almost something hymnal about it.”
Alex V: Like I Used To Be (Ft. Mesmè) – Neit Fleit
“A collab between 2 powerhouses in the S.C.D.D back catalogue. Absolutely adore both of their solo works and reckon they work so well together.”
Fynn: ROCKY BALBOA – ATARI Y
“ATARI Y is some of the best Sydney’s local hip-hop scene has to offer right now and that’s exemplified by his brand new banger of a single about self-image.”
And then you have our fans of the short and sweet, no justification needed: just trust their opinions.
