Sydney pop-rock virtuoso Sarah Yagki recently released her latest single ‘Alone’, and it is her best work yet. ‘Alone’ feels and sounds epic, and evokes a certain catharsis worthy of a great classical movement. Yagki’s stirring vocals pull at the heart-strings so that, combined with her touching lyrics about both hope and darkness.
In an interview with Milky, Yagki shared that “depending on the listener, ‘Alone’ acts both as a song that tries to find hope, and also a song that accepts that you are falling without a willingness to get back up”. Indeed, ‘Alone’ is a song about ambivalence, and the artist perfectly encapsulates this meaning in her music.
Yagki’s capabilities are not only visible in the studio but also on film, with the single being accompanied by a music video that demonstrated the artist’s exceptional talent. Watching Yagki perform at her best, singing on a dark and empty beach or on the hood of an abandoned car, the meaning and weight of the single becomes ever clearer.
2023 has been a year of hard work for the growing artist. This year also saw the release of the 16 minute EP ‘I Love You, I Lied’ in March, which was a first for Yagki. The EP featured several of the artist’s previous singles, as well as some new tracks as well. Fans of Yagki’s work would have also seen her sell out show at the Oxford Art Factory earlier this year, and indeed, her hard work doesn’t stop there.
If you missed Sarah Yagki performing live at SURG’s recent Uni Tunes: Live At The Metro, make sure to check out her upcoming single launch at Oxford Art Factory’s Gallery Bar on Saturday, July 1st with support from special guests The Sunday Estate and KHAOS EMRLD.
