USU Launches 2022 Creative Awards Competition

While the Art Gallery of NSW has been busy announcing the 2022 Archibald nominees, the University of Sydney Union (USU) has been busy cooking up it’s own art competition. Open to all students of the University of Sydney (USyd), the USU Creative Awards gives students the opportunity to have their work presented at the University’s Verge gallery. Student’s creative works can be submitted under three different categories; Art, Music and Word.

Each category has a grand prize of $750, with a second prize receiving $350 and people’s choice $100. Entrants in the ‘Word’ category must be less than 4 A4 pages or 2000 words in length, music pieces must be shorter than 5 minutes in length and the requirements for the accept styles of art (sculpture, painting, photography, video etc) can be seen here.

The 2021 competition was a great success, with Bonnie Huang’s 西遊記 (Journey to the west) winning the art category, Chelsea Warner’s It Be Like That taking top spot in the music and Zachary Picker’s Fifteen coming first in the word category.

Entries close on the 14 August 2022 and are only open to USU members. Exhibition dates are the 24th October – 4th November 2022 with the awards night occurring on 3 November 2022. Click here for the full terms and conditions.
