Sem 2 ’25: The lazy susan sessions
Show Spotlight
The Lazy Susan Sessions is a show spinning Asian & Asian diaspora artists on SURG FM. If you’re wondering who the hell Susan is and why she’s lazy…a Lazy Susan is a staple in Chinese restaurants. A rotating tray so diners can share dishes around a circular table. A product of cultural hybridity between East and West. This cross-culture dialogue is the spirit of the show! Hear from Asian/Asian-Australian artists talking about their influences, artistic processes and experiences as diaspora creatives. Dive into Asia’s diverse music histories and how they influence the genres we listen to today.
The show moves beyond the shorthand of Asian music as just J-pop or K-pop, playing a balance of tracks from South Asian artists, Southeast Asian, Central Asian artists alike. Hosted by Pongyada, who is a part of the Asian diaspora herself, the Lazy Susan Sessions is about cultivating a place to celebrate our roots and breaking stereotypes, because we have so much more to share about our culture than just a hotpot! So spin the Lazy Susan and have this show at your table (in your headphones on Fridays, 1-2pm).
We asked host Pongyada Sootthipong (Media & Communications/International Relations) a couple of questions to get to know them a little better.

If you could pick a food that embodies your show, what would it be?
A gigantic bowl of Mala dry mix that you overloaded with ingredients because you were way too hungry
Which musical act no longer with us would you most want to time travel to watch live, just once?
