WEEKEND #FYP: Decoding The Takeaways From AllDay And Memphis LK’s Bizarre TikToks

Aussie musos AllDay and Memphis LK have teamed up together to make a series of head-scratching TikToks that’ll end Christopher Nolan’s career.

Their videos emit the same energy as ‘Space Song’ by Beach House, and can even be likened to the taste of Maccas’ Sprite.

But what do these fever dream-like TikToks even mean?

#1 Humble Pie

In one of their earliest videos, AllDay coaxes Memphis LK into eating some pie. The baked good in question looks a lot more like a loaf of bread, but I’m more interested in where the TikTok is going that I look past it. Claude Debussy’s ‘Clair de Lune’ plays as Memphis LK takes a generous bite, and it’s revealed that she’s been tricked into eating a ‘humble pie’.

“I’m sick of you bragging about being good at the golden clarinet,” he comments.

Memphis LK is shocked. I’m shocked. But before we have time to process anything, she begins to shake uncontrollably – the effects of AllDay’s concoction taking place.

The camera zooms in dramatically on Memphis LK, and she finally admits, “I’m just okay at the clarinet.”

Takeaway: Don’t eat suspicious looking pies.

#2 Caleb The Grocery Bag Holder

They’ve even filmed a commercial. This time, appealing to a specific demographic of viewers.

“Are you tired of your groceries sliding around in the backseat?” AllDay asks.

We see a shot of their car driving around a carpark, causing a sweet potato and an orange to land on the car floor. Memphis LK scrunches her face and answers “no”. The camera cuts to AllDay encouraging her to say yes. The whole thing is like when you record a home-made video with your siblings and cousins and one of them decides to go off script.

Caleb, played by AllDay, offers a service to hold your groceries in the car. It’s a genius idea. He stays in the backseat, stares at you while you drive, and makes sure your shopping doesn’t roll around. However, there’s one glaring issue another TikToker raises.

“But who holds Caleb?”

Takeaway: Get a Caleb to hold your Caleb.

#3 Table For Two, Please

Restaurant bookings are important in avoiding disappointment, especially in times like these. And nobody knows this better than our duo.

Memphis LK is busy talking on the phone. Meanwhile AllDay is pestering her like a child, wanting to know if they can accommodate them. I assume she’s talking to a fancy restaurant that only accepts bookings in advance.

But then Memphis LK delivers the punchline,

“She says McDonald’s don’t do bookings.”

AllDay looks defeated. There’s no way he’s letting her end the phone call without securing a spot. He suggests that she tell them it’s their anniversary. Whether or not this is true, it’s a tactic that’ll definitely increase their chances.

“She says we can come in anytime.”

Takeaway: Bookings are essential, but only for participating restaurants.

#4 Hold The Memories

Despite being considered the best of its kind by many, Memphis LK is experiencing issues with her memory foam pillow. The “memories kept rushing back”, preventing her from having a good night’s sleep.

She returns to the pillow shop and asks for a regular foam pillow, “Hold the memories.”

But our pillow-shop-keeper isn’t in the mood to do business. Instead, he uses the opportunity to correct the sleepless customer. “Memories can’t be held,” he says, “They’re a concept.”

When asked why the pillow shop is open at 3 AM, AllDay says that the good shops are always open late, “because that’s when you need a pillow.” I can’t fault his reasoning. It’s probably the exact reason why Woolies is open so late – so that primary school kids and their mums can grab some paper and a glue stick for a poster due the next morning.

The TikTok ends with Memphis lying back down in her bed. But, it’s not long before the video perfectly loops to the beginning and she’s once again making her way to get a regular foam pillow.

Takeaway: Pillow shops should change their business hours.
