SEM 2 ’24: The Supreme Goal of the Hero Myth
Mondays 12-1PM with Hugo Leuchars
“In 2010, the scholar Frederic Jameson declared that “History, which was once multiple, is now more than ever unified into a single History.” This is a development which has not passed by inconspicuously in the worlds of music, literature, and the like. The distinctions between “high” and “low” culture are less useful descriptors year-on-year. For Jameson’s pronouncement is also a question. What would Young Thug and Mozart have talked about had they met? What do the compositions of Georges Delerue, intended for the screen, have in common with Babyxsosa? Is the dawn of a universal history really upon us? Can you put a sound inside an image? Can a guitar speak? These are questions that this show aims to answer.
Join us every week for an hour of investigations as your host and his jolly friends attempt to, in whatever way possible, find a place for us in the cosmos. We’ll also play work by yours truly and from others in the community. Tune in! Requests welcome! We love music!”
